“Walk with the dreamers,
the successful people with their
head in the clouds
and their feet on the ground.”
– Wilfred Peterson –
Once in a while you meet people who exist on an entirely different (higher) caliber than the norm. These people often have such an amazing story behind where they are today. They aren’t the type to accept No as an answer. They see the good in the world and dream as if there is no limit. They genuinely want those around them to succeed and are willing to share their advice and knowledge to see you grow. There’s a fire in their eyes when they speak and you can’t help but lean in for more.
I am truly in awe of these people.
Sadly, in this day and age, these type of individuals are becoming more and more hard to find. Off the top of my head, I can think of just a small handful that I am blessed to know in my own personal life. I recognize these individuals because any time I am around them, there is something magical to them. They have this presence to them – they have a hustle to their mindset and a fiery passion roaring in their heart. When you converse with them, there is an indescribable spark in their eyes that is both terrifying and inspiring. They see the world as an endless
opportunity for growth – you can always be better than where you currently stand. You never have to settle for anything that makes you unhappy. If you commit to your dreams, hell or high water, then literally anything is possible.
“The dream is free, but the hustle is sold separately.”
I also recognize these individuals because when I leave them, I have this renewed fire in my own dreams. The petty, insignificant distractions that often weasel their way into my path are punted so far away that I feel the most incredible liberation.
The tunnel vision is lifted. Suddenly I can see solutions to roadblocks; I receive new inspiration and ideas; and the drive to fulfill my dreams is renewed in full force.
There are times I leave in this sate of awe – completely speechless and grinning from ear to ear. You realize in that moment that these are the type of people who naturally raise your frequency to match theirs. These people genuinely WANT to see you become the best that you can possibly be.
The exchange of this powerful energy between human beings can literally shake the foundation of the Earth and change the course history forever.
“Successful people are always
looking for opportunities
to help others.
Unsuccessful people are always asking,
“Whats in it for me?”
– Brian Tracy
Why then do we surround ourselves with anything less? Why do we bother with people who bring us down, who fill our minds with negativity and doubt, or who cannot see our potential and claim, “It’s impossible” to the dream we have? These type of people would rather clip your wings than see you soar.
The hard part is when these people have ties that run deeper than the surface. Family members are a prime example of this. More often than not, you can’t simply say Goodbye and walk away. Or maybe you have deep friendships that you don’t want to loose, but you also recognize that as you have all grown over time, you may no longer be in the space you once used to be.
People change and that’s okay. You must recognize those you surround yourself with and determine their worth in your own life. If they bring you down in any way, maybe it’s time to reevaluate if they’re worthy of standing next to you.
A great place to start is in the moments when you are at your lowest. Because in that moment of discouragement and doubt, what will these individuals do for you? Will they pick you back up, offer words of encouragement, or say, “How can I help?”. Will they see your potential when you don’t see it in yourself? Or will they turn their back on you, look the other way, or worse, kick you while your down?
My friends, this life is too damn short to be cluttered with anything other than that which fans your flames. It’s not a crime to raise your standards in the people you surround yourself with. Just imagine how unstoppable you would otherwise.
“People either inspire you,
or they drain you.
We are works in progress. We are constantly learning and growing in our own personal journey through life. You are not the same You as you were five years ago. Nothing prepares you for the growing pains that can often come with this, but I promise the reward on the other side is worth striving for. Become the best You that you can possibly be. If people can’t see that in you then find those who can. Search relentlessly for those people who set your soul on fire and who believe in you more than you believe in your own self.
When you finally meet these remarkable individuals, DO NOT let them go. Your dreams are far too critical to let that lifeline slip by. Do everything you can to keep them in your wheelhouse. Because I guarantee, without a doubt in my mind, that your life will never be the same.
